From Downward Spiral to Upward Spiral: A Guide to Self-Regulation and Positive Transformation
In moments of distress or overwhelm, it can feel like you’re trapped in a downward spiral, sinking deeper into negativity with each passing moment. But there are steps you can take to shift your mindset and emotions, guiding yourself towards an upward spiral of positivity and self-regulation.
As a women's coach and hypnotherapist, I've found a practice that can be incredibly effective in breaking free from the grip of a downward spiral. Here are the X steps:
It begins with a simple yet powerful act: pausing. Pausing allows you to interrupt the momentum of negative thoughts and emotions, creating space for a shift to occur.
Once you’ve paused, the next step is to tune into our breath. With each inhale, visualize yourself crawling out of the downward spiral, releasing tension and negativity with each exhale. Whether it's imagining climbing a ladder or ascending a staircase, the act of breathing paired with this visualisation allows you to consciously regain control and clarity.
The third step involves taking responsibility for your emotional state. By affirming to yourself, "I am choosing to love, honor, and accept myself in this moment," you reclaim your power and agency. This acknowledgment lays the foundation for positive change.
Next, you shift your focus towards how you want to feel in the present moment. This could manifest as a sensation in the body, a memory of a past experience, or even a colour. By tapping into this desired feeling, you initiate the upward spiral of transformation.
With your intention set, you can then immerse yourself in thoughts, memories, or affirmations that align with this desired state. Whether it's visualizing peaceful scenes, reciting affirmations of relaxation, or simply basking in the feeling of safety, you can actively cultivate positivity within yourself.
As you continue to nurture this upward spiral, you gradually move from a state of dysregulation to one of balance and empowerment. With each loving thought and action, you reinforce your capacity for resilience and self-care.
By incorporating these steps into your daily practice, you can navigate life's challenges with greater ease and grace. The journey from a downward spiral to an upward spiral is not always linear, or easy but with patience and commitment, you can transform your inner landscape and embrace the limitless potential within you.
